The Ten Commandments are ten Biblical laws that are still in effect today. When the Lord told Moses to lead His chosen people out of the land of Egypt He knew that the people had been slaves and as such had no experience in making laws or rules to live by. The Lord knew they would need some direction. He provided the Ten Commandments and many other laws, statutes, and commandments as rules for the Israelites to live by. God meant for His chosen people to follow these rules and He was very serious about it, even commanding people to follow these commandments. God also included many more commandments with these ten. Nowhere in the bible does it say that the Ten Commandments were changed, altered, or no longer valid. God still expects us to follow these same Ten Commandments. And God spake all these words, saying, Exodus 20:1 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Exodus 20:2 The Ten Commandments 1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Ex. 20:3 2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; Exo.4 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God an a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;Exo. 20:5 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Exo. 20:6 3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Exo. 20:7 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exo. 20:8 4. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: Exo. 20:9 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: Exo. 20:10 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day:wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exo. 20:11 5. Honour thy father, and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Exo. 20:12 6. Thou shalt not kill. Exo. 20:13 7. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Exo. 20:14 8. Thou shalt not steal. Exo. 20:15 9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour, Exo. 20:16 10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. Exo. 20:17 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. Exo. 20:18
