The twelve Apostle of Jesus Christ Bible Studies. All twelve of Jesus Christ's disciples were hand-picked by Jesus to serve Him during His time on earth and to become the foundation of His Holy city. The meaning of the word apostle (a Greek word) is "a sent one" Jesus repeatedly said "It is written", referring to the Old Testament as a dependable resource for truthful information, so that his disciples would grow to understand his principles. The twelve men were chosen by Jesus Christ and specially promoted to the rank of apostle; members of his special twelve who journeyed with Christ during his ministry here on earth and who continued to tell people about Jesus and what He had taught them until their ultimate deaths. The names of the Apostles of Jesus are: Andrew, Bartholomew, James the Elder, James the Lesser, John Boanerges, Judas Iscariot (who betrayed Christ), Simon, Simon Peter, Phillip, Jude, Matthew the Tax Collector, and Thomas (also called doubting Thomas).
