If you just got saved or you need to remind yourself or someone else about the importance of baptism, here are bible verses which clearly show what baptism is all about and the importance of baptism.
Jesus set an example for us to follow and Jesus himself felt that baptism was important-so important that He felt it was necessary to be baptized by John the Baptist. The bible clearly states that you should be baptized. We are to follow Christ's example and Jesus Christ set that example when He was baptized by John the Baptist. Jesus came from Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan river. John knew who Jesus was and tried to stop Jesus saying, "I need to be baptized by you. Why do you come to me?" Jesus answered John saying, "Let it be so now, it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John agreed to baptize Jesus. Jesus was baptized and as soon as he came out of the water, heaven was opened. He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and landed on Him. A voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with whom I am well pleased." It is obvious that God the Father approved of Jesus His Son being baptized.
Matthew 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Matthew 3:14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Matthew 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
People who do not believe in Jesus will suffer eternal damnation If you believe in Jesus Christ and get baptized you will be saved.Whoever believes in Jesus Christ and is baptized will be saved and whoever does not believe will be damned.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16
The Gift You Get When You Are Baptized Getting Baptized by being submerged in water is symbolic of a new beginning, a new birth in Jesus Christ and when we are baptized we will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
When Paul came to Ephesus he found twelve disciples who had been baptized through John's baptism but had not been baptized in the name of our Lord Jesus and when Paul told them this they were all baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus and when Paul laid hands on them they all received the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues.
Acts 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Acts 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Jesus tells us to Teach & Baptize Others Jesus Christ tells us to teach all nations and to baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost (the Godhead trinity). He clearly states that everyone that believes and is baptized will be saved and the people who do not believe and get baptized will be damned.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matthew 28:19
And he said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" Mark 16:15
Another reason you should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ They were baptized using the name of Jesus Christ and when they were baptized in His name they put on Jesus Christ-Galatians 3:27 Why you should not wait to be baptized When we are saved we should be baptized right away "Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord" Acts 22:16 Jesus said if you believe and are baptized you will be saved but if you do not believe you will be damned. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." Mark 16:16
Memory Verse: Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4
