LEARN FROM THE ERRORS OF OTHERS. Isaiah 30:1-3 "Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: Isaiah 30:1
Jewish ambassadors were now on their way to Egypt to seek aid against Assyria (Isa 30:2-6, 15; 31:1). Isaiah denounces this reliance on Egypt rather than on Jehovah. God had prohibited such alliances with heathen nations, and it was a leading part of Jewish policy that they should be a separate people (Ex 23:32; Deut 7:2).
It was often, and still is, the fault and folly of the Jews, MY PEOPLE, that when troubled by their neighbours on one side, they sought for succour from others, instead of looking up to God. Nor can we avoid the dreadful consequences of adding sin to sin, but by making the righteousness of Christ our refuge, and seeking for the sanctification of the Holy Spirit.
Men have always been prone to lean to their own understandings, but this will end in their shame and misery. They would not trust in God. They took much pains to gain the Egyptians. The riches so spent turned to a bad account. See what dangers men run into who forsake God to follow their carnal confidences. The Creator is the Rock of ages, the creature a broken reed. Our strength is to sit still, in humble dependence upon God and his goodness, and quiet submission to his will.
That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Isaiah 30:2
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help And rely on horses, And trust in chariots because they are many And in horsemen because they are very strong, But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD! Isaiah 31:1
Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion." Isaiah 30:3
"Then they will be dismayed and ashamed because of Cush their hope and Egypt their boast. Isaiah 20:5
"Behold, you rely on the staff of this crushed reed, even on Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him. Isaiah 36:6
BE KIND, ONE TO ANOTHER. We all get dirty in sin. Don't be self righteous! If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. John 13:14 Help me, Lord, to so love my brothers and sisters in Christ that I am willing to wash their feet and am willing to allow them to wash mine. May I do so in tenderness and warmth, knowing how gentle You are with me.
CONFESSION OF SIN IS WISDOM AND MATURITY IN CHRIST Let us plead guilty before God, be humble, and willing to know the worst of our case relying wholly on his mercy and truth through the righteousness of Christ, for a free and full forgiveness, and our deliverance from the power and practice of sin. "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Jeremiah 17:9. Even the apostle Paul was frustrated with his own battle against indwelling sin. "For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members" Romans 7:22-23. This capacity to sin led him to cry in desperation, "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?" Romans 7:24.
SHALL WE NOT BE MINDFUL OF SIN? Romans 6 "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Romans 6:1 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" If a purported Christian IS LIVING THEIR LIFE IN CONTINUOUS SIN it is because they most probably are sinners who never were saved. A sinner saved shows a change in their living God ward according to scriptures. Our lives will be evidenced by change. That is sanctification at work by the Holy Spirit. And God has provided recourse for us when we sin: Romans 6:2
1 John 2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: I John 2:1 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." I John 2:2
WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE? Why do bad things happen to good people? The biblical answer is there are no “good” people. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that all of us are tainted by and infected with sin (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 6:23; 1 John 1:8). Romans 3:10-18 could not be clearer about the non-existence of “good” people: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Every human being on this planet deserves to be thrown into hell at this very moment. Every second we spend alive is only by the grace and mercy of God. Even the most terrible misery we could experience on this planet is merciful compared to what we deserve, eternal hell in the lake of fire.
It is Christ in us that keeps us saved, who serves in Heaven as our intercessor before GOD, who pleads His blood for our sins as we confess them, and who keeps us in fellowship in the presence of our Father because it is not we who live but Christ in us who is our true life and our identity ...THE SURE HOPE OF GLORY. 1 John 1:6-10
DON'T SAY GRACE WHILE YOU HATE THE BRETHREN! The love of God in Christ, in the hearts of Christians from the Spirit of adoption, is the great proof of conversion. This must be tried by its effects on their temper, and their conduct to their brethren. If a man professes to love God, and yet indulges anger or revenge, or shows a selfish disposition, he gives his profession the lie. But if it is plain that our natural enmity is changed into affection and gratitude, let us bless the name of our God for this seal and earnest of eternal happiness. Then we differ from the false professors, who pretend to love God, whom they have not seen, yet hate their brethren, whom they have seen.
1 John 4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. BELIEVE Salvation and forgiveness of sins is not about following steps. It is about receiving Christ as Savior from our sins, Lord of our life, perfect in life and risen from death, recognizing that He has done all of the critical work for us. God requires one step of us—receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and fully trusting in Him alone as the way of salvation. That is what distinguishes the Christian faith from all other world religions, each of which has a list of steps that must be followed in order for salvation to be received. The Christian faith recognizes that God has already completed the steps and simply calls on us to receive Him in faith.
A definition of the Christian doctrine of salvation would be “The deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who accept by faith God’s conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.” Salvation is available in Jesus alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12) and is dependent on God alone for provision, assurance, and security.
