God does not want us to be rebellious and stubborn. Rebellion is a sin that makes you weak and makes your heart sick. Rebellion is sin which vexes the Holy Spirit. Mankind is born carnal with a natural stubborn and rebellious instinct. When we walk after our own thoughts and do not do Gods will, and follow His commandments, we become rebellious. Those who rebel against the Lord do not know the right path to take. When we deliberately do things not in line with God's will, His word and do not follow His commandments, we are being rebellious and showing contempt for God.
"But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers". I Sam. 12:14
Rebellion comes from the heart.
"But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone". Jer. 5:23
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matt. 15:18-19.
Rebellion is listed in the same classification with the sin of witchcraft, stubbornness, iniquity, and idolatry. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. 1 Sam 15:23 We must be careful not to teach stubbornness and rebellion to our children or others, as the Lord will punish those who rebel against Him. We can be forgiven the sin of rebellion if we ask for forgiveness and when we do not rebel against the Lord and His commandments we receive blessings from Him. What Happens When We Are Rebellious? People who rebel against the Lord do not know the right path to take They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof. Job 24:13 There was no complete covering for sin until Jesus died on the cross If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. John 15:22 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you. Acts 13:41 When we walk after our own thoughts and not God's we are Rebellious I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts; Isa. 65:2 Stubbornness & Rebellion For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death? Isa. 1:23 When we Rebel we are in Contempt of God Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: Psa. 107:11 Mankind has a sinful nature which allows Rebellion to thrive For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death? Deut. 31:27 The law is Spiritual and we are Carnal (sold under sin): A natural instinct to rebel. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. Rom. 7:14:18 Rebellion comes from our hearts But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Jer. 5:23 Words spoken from the mouth come from our hearts and can defile us But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matt. 15:18-19 Rebellious people do things to aggravate their sin by turning their backs on the Lord Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways: Job 34:27 Rebellious people practice hypocrisy to hide their sin And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me. Hosea 7:14 Rebellious people persevere in their sin Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD. Deut. 9:7 Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you. Deut 9:24 Rebellion can make you sick and your heart weak Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. Isa. 64:10 The Hand of the Lord is against Rebellious people But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers. I Sam. 12:14 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness: To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. Psa. 68:6 The Lord condemns and brings low the hearts with labour who Rebel and there will be nobody to help them Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help. Psa 107:11-12 The Rebellious are delivered into the hands of their enemies Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations. Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies. Neh. 9:26:27 Rebellious people are cast out Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee. Neh 9:17 Prevent Rebelliousness by learning from those who obey the Lord For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: Psa. 78:5 Teach your children not to be stubborn and rebellious And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God. Psa. 78:8 We receive Blessings if we do not Rebel and listen to the voice of the Lord And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
