This study is about Comfort, more specifically, what the Bible says about comfort and how it affects you. Comforting each other We should comfort one another during hard times Comfort YE, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Isa. 40:1 Comfort and restoration for the Lord's chosen people Isaiah was one of the first prophets who could write. His work for the Lord is said to be during the time of the Assyrians( approx. 722 B.C.). Isaiah's ministry told people about the judgement day and and was intended to restore God's people so that they would put their faith and hope in the Lord and anticipate the day of the Lord's return. He encouraged the people to comfort everyone that may be mourning. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath annointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; Isa. 61:1 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn. Isa. 61:1-2 You can find comfort by trusting the Lord, being obedient to God and following his example of leadership In Psalm's King David refer's to his time on earth as the "shadow of death" the shadow of death was what people in those days feared very much just as people do now. However, David points out that he is not afraid because God is with him. He specifies that his comfort comes from the Lord's rod and staff. In those day a rod was often used for correction while a staff was used by those in a position of authority as a symbol of leadership. Yea tho I walk through the shadow of the valley of death, I will fear no evil: for thou are with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
