In this Bible study we explore why and what worshiping the Lord means as well as three very important reasons why you need to worship the Lord.
What does worship the Lord mean? Answer: Honoring the Lord, showing reverence to Him by demonstrating your feelings or expressions of reverence and adoration for the Lord. Why should you worship the Lord? When you serve and worship the Lord He will bless your bread and your water. He will remove sickness from you.
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Psalms 29:2
Serve the LORD your God, and he will bless your bread and your water. I will remove illnesses from you. Exodus 23:25
The wise men who saw the Eastern star, knew that Jesus was a King and should be worshiped.
Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
When satan tried to tempt Jesus by taking Him up to a high mountain and showing Him all the kingdoms of the world and told Jesus that he would give all of it to Jesus if Jesus would fall down and worship him. Jesus was not fooled, even tho, He was in a weakened physical state from fasting, His mental state was not diminished but in fact was right on target when He told the devil, " Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve". and the devil gave up trying to tempt Jesus and left him. It is important that we focus on the Lord and His will and never worship anything or anyone but HIM. Jesus revealed an important weapon to use against satan when we feel tempted to do things we know are wrong. We can use Christ's words to make devils leave us alone.
Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
Matthew 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Matthew 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Is Worshiping the Lord necessary? Many people think that they may enter the Kingdom of Heaven because they eat "clean" foods, or because they go to church every time the door opens, or because they are doing what they feel is "the best that they can" and yet they do not spend time praying, studying, and worshiping the Lord. Many only pray when something goes wrong and then they cry out to God and sadly many churches and teachers of God's word are teaching false doctrines. It is for this reason that many people today, do not want to change the traditions they learned from people and even in their church, and go through life blindly never truly accepting the truth of God's word. Many worship the Lord only at church so others can see them but rarely (if ever) take time out of their day to just worship the Lord, let Him know that you love Him. It is vitally important that if you have a family that you teach them how to worship the Lord. Gather your family and worship the Lord together to set a good example and to show your family how important it is. The Lord does not just want "lip service" where people say the words without any real meaning or feeling behind them. When worshiping the Lord your thoughts need to be focused on Him with your whole heart full of love-reaching out to Him-feel His prescence.
Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
God the Father is a spirit who is looking for people who love Him to worship Him. The time has come that the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Question asked: I worship God at church, is that enough? Some falsely believe that they only need to worship God when they are in churches. However, since Christ died for our sins we are now all one blood and the Holy Spirit lives inside us when we are saved, our bodies are His vessels, our body is a temple where He resides in spirit, which means we can worship the Lord anywhere, at home when we are alone, with family, with friends, or even with strangers. We do not have to be in a temple or church to worship Him. God made the world and everything in it, he is Lord of both heaven and earth and He does not live in temples made of hands by people. If you seek the Lord by praying, songs, praising Him, studying the Bible, you will find HIM because He is not far from each of us. We are His offspring, His children and it is because of Him we breathe, move, and live.
Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
Acts 17:25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
Acts 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Even the angels worship Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
It is vitally important that we fear God, fear the punishment that awaits us if we do not repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and saviour. We can strengthen our relationship with the Lord by worshiping Him and as a result He will bless us, heal our water, heal our land and remove sickness from among us. We worship the God who created us, the heavens, the earth, the seas and the fountains of waters.
Revelation 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
