One of the greatest points of controversial deception is death-people trying to figure out what happens when we die. Some people say that when you die you go to heaven or hell while others say your spirit gets reborn in another person or animal but the truth is, you will go to sleep until Jesus Christ returns and will raise the dead first, then all people will be judged. In order to understand the truth of the matter it is important to realize what the bible says about death. Many people who are grieving the death of a loved one grasp at and readily accept the thought that the dead may return, watch over them, or try to contact them, when in reality, after death, according to the Bible, your thoughts perish with you so this is most unlikely. The Bible tells us our physical body will die but your spirit does not die-it sleeps until Christ's return. Is it possible to go straight to heaven? Not Likely. The Bible refers to 2 people who went to heaven but Jesus clearly said, nobody has been to heaven so the following verses were either mistranslated or whoever originally wrote the passages, just assumed that Elijah and Enoch went to heaven or and most likely is the case is that they were referring to the sky as heaven. Jesus Christ clearly stated that nobody has went to heaven or will except HIM.
And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven John 3:13
Verses that refer to Elijah and Enoch going to heaven Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind to heaven but mentions nothing about him dying a physical death and even tho, people looked for his body after it happened, no body was found.
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. II Kings 2:11
Enoch who was no more because God took him.
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. Gen. 5:24
So, what happens to your spirit after your physical body dies? Your spirit doesn't hang around haunting people, it does not jump into other beings, and it is most likely not watching anyone. Your spirit returns to God who gave it and sleeps until our Lord Jesus Christ returns. Your physical body turns to dust but will be resurrected when the Lord returns and then you will be changed from a physical being into a spiritual being.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
When the Lord returns there will be no more sorrow, no crying, and no pain When the Lord returns the physical and emotional pain that we suffer will no longer exist.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Rev. 21:4
What happens to our body and spirit when we die? When you die your body returns to earth and your spirit returns to God. When we die our bodies return to dust in the earth but our spirit returns to God because He gave us His spirit when He gave us His breath of life which is His spirit in us. There was no physical death before Adam and Eve ate of the tree of good and evil (See Genesis Chapter 3). After they ate of it God did not want them to eat also of the tree of life so He banished them from the garden of Eden and He admonished the man telling him that from dust you are and to dust you shall return, clearly implying physical death of the body would come at some point.
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Genesis 3:19
After physical death occurs-Where does the spirit go? After you die, your physical body decomposes and turns into dust, just as it was before God created humans. However, the spirit does not die but rather it returns to God because it is God who gave it.
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Eccl. 12:7
When you die your breath leaves your body and everything in your thoughts perish.
His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Psa. 146:4
No matter whether alive or dead-we still belong to the lord
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. Rom. 14:8
What happens if you are saved when you die?
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. I Thess. 4:14
Not everyone will die before the Lord's return But all (living and dead) will be changed from mortals to Immortals
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, I Cor. 15:51
When the Lord returns, after the last trumpet sounds, the dead will be raised with bodies still intact and then will you be changed to a spiritual being. The sting of death is sin but when we rise again and are transformed into spiritual beings we will have victory over death because our Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead and through Him we will have everlasting life.
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. I Cor. 15:52
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality. I Cor. 15:53
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. I Cor. 15:54
O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? I Cor. 15:55
The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. I Cor. 15:56
But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I Cor. 15:57
Only those who are saved will receive eternal life
