What the Bible says about Witchcraft, Sorcerer's, Diviner's,Observer of times, Astrology (Horoscopes),Enchanter, Witch's and Consulter's of Familiar Spirits
Do not be Deceived! The Holy Bible is very specific about Astrology (Horoscopes), Witchcraft, Sorcerer's, and diviner's of familiar spirits.
We have been subjected to evil since Adam & Eve. The evil one has charming ways to deceive us. Take horoscopes and astrology for example. I used to read my horoscope every day. I actually believed they were real predictions. I did not feel there was anything wrong with it. I vividly recall an incident when I accused someone of something after I read their horoscope that suggested they may have committed some hidden indiscretion. Years later a renowned "Psychic" was on my television telling everyone that the horoscopes are "generalized" to fit anyone. In other words, I could read any one of the horoscopes and it would apply to my life in some way. I tried it with different ones and it was true. Every one of the horoscopes applied to me in some way. Horoscopes are generalized statements that will fit anyone's life if they try to make it 'fit' their life. Many have asked the question, "Should a Christian consult horoscopes?" . The answers to all our questions are in the Holy Bible and in the teaching revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals things to believer's so there is no need to consult sorcerer's or horoscopes. There is a difference between prophecy and witchcraft. Diviner's and Astrologer's are basically practicing witchcraft. Astrologer's study Astrology which is defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as "the divination of the supposed influences of the stars and planets on human affairs and terrestrial events by their positions and aspects". Familiar spirits are defined as "a spirit or demon that serves or prompts an individual: the spirit of a dead person invoked by a medium to advise or prophesy. Witchcraft is defined as, "the use of sorcery or magic: communication with the devil or with a familiar: an irresistible influence or fascination. The Bible tells us not to learn the abomination of those nations In Deuteronomy it clearly state that there should not be anyone of His people who makes their son and daughter pass through the fire, should not use divination or consult observer of times, diviners, enchanters or witches. Things the Lord God said were an abomination to Him:
Sacrificing children
Using divination
Practicing as an observer of times
Being a enchanter
Being a witch or warlock
Being a charmer
Consulting with familiar spirits
Being a wizard
Being a necromancer (someone who practices witchcraft)
Sacrificing children:During Biblical times there were many pagan religions which practiced the ritual of Molech. The ritual of Molech was essentially where parents would sacrifice one or more of their own children to a false God by burning the child to death as they walked through a fire on a brick walkway, while the parents and other pagan worshippers watched and danced. "The Gemara provides two traditions regarding the actual ritual: According to Abaye, the child would walk on a raised brick walkway between two fires. According to Rava, the child would be made to leap over a fire burning in a pit (similar to how children would amuse themselves on Purim). Rashi, in his commentary on the Torah, adopts the opinion of Abaye: “This was a form of idolatry, named Molech, and this was the manner of its worship, that one would hand over one’s child to the pagan priests, who would make two huge fires. The child was then passed through on foot between these two fires.” (1) The Lord God considered the Molech ritual as an abomination and said that those who practice the ritual of Molech would be cut off from his people and put to death.
Deuteronomy 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
Deuteronomy 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
Deuteronomy 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
How does the Lord feel about people who practice witchcraft, consult familiar spirits, wizards, necromancers etc. ?
Deuteronomy 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
Deuteronomy 18:13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.
Deuteronomy 18:14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
In Jeremiah it tells why you should not listen to your prophets, diviners, dreamers, enchanters, sorcerers:
Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: Jeremiah 27:9
For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish. Jeremiah 27:10
What will happen to people who practice these abominations?
Micah 1:6 Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof.
Micah 1:7 And all the graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay desolate: for she gathered it of the hire of an harlot, and they shall return to the hire of an harlot.
