For three hours it was dark while Jesus Christ hung on the cross, still alive, before he cried out to God. Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. Matt. 27:45 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Matt. 27:46 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. Matt. 27:47 And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. Matt. 27-48 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. Matt. 27:49 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. Matt. 27:50. Also reference to Mark 15:37Jesus stood trial like a common criminal, was tortured and then crucified, Jesus faced a horrible death as he was nailed to a cross through His hands and feet, left hanging there until he bleed to death after being tortured and flogged, whipped and was forced to carry His cross. A crown made of thorns on his head our King Jesus suffered and died to save us from our sins. His blood covers our sins even today. The sheer brutality of His death was unthinkable. People do not like to think about it and many do not. Once we know of His ultimate blood sacrifice that He made to save us, it is hard not to accept Him as our Savior. As Christ hung from this cross His only thoughts were to save us and with His last breath He cried out, "My God My God, Why have thy forsaken me!" because at that moment Jesus took on all of the sin in the world and at that moment God had to look away from Christ because God cannot look upon sin. Our sins were covered with Jesus Christ's blood, God's own son sacrificed His life to save us!
