As followers of Christ, we should make a strong effort, not to appear foolish to other people or before God. The bible says we should be wise (smart) and get away from evil while pointing out that foolish people act out in rage and are very confident about their ill behavior. We need to be careful so that we do not become as fools before God by avoiding evil and the appearance of evil. A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. Prov. 14:16 Verses about foolish and foolishly People who are quick to anger are considered foolish He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. Prov. 14:17 Jesus gives an example of foolishness describing a house built on sand While Jesus discussed judging and hypocrisy He gave an example of foolishness as a house that was built on sand. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: Matt. 7:26 And the rain descended and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Matt. 7:27 Five foolish virgins described by Jesus Jesus describes ten virgins who were to wait and meet the bridegroom. Five were described as wise because they took oil for their lamps with them while the other five were considered foolish because they did not take any oil with them and their lamps went out before the bridegroom arrived. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Matt. 25:2 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: Matt. 25:3 People who think they are very wise and do not glorify God and are not being thankful to Him are foolish When we turn away from God it is considered foolishness and because of it we become vain in our own imaginations and our hearts will be darkened because of foolishness such as not glorifiying God and not being thankful to God. Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened, Rom. 1:21 Professing themselves to be wise, they become fools, Rom. 1:22
