When we rebel against the Lord we lose His protection, He turns His back on us when we rebel by not obeying His laws. Rebellion vexes (annoy's, frustrates, and causes distress) to the Lord's Holy Spirit. When we persist in disobedience to God's commandments and laws, it angers God which causes bad things to happen in our lives. Many people do not follow God's laws because they have been taught false teachings and doctrines by people they trusted. Some of which may have not known the truth themselves. When we reject God's commandments we are interfering with His will and when this happens He will deliver you to your enemies. Satan is our enemy always pacing, seeking, and waiting to devour you. Ignoring God's laws will not make them go away, nor will it make the punishment for disobedience go away. We can get protection against our enemies, and the main one, Satan, protection from the punishment from disobedience by asking for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ, following His laws and commandments (being obedient), and by putting on the armor of God. We should not Rebel against the Lord Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not. Numbers 14:9 Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD'S tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the LORD our God. Joshua 22:19 We should not Provoke God But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. Numbers 16:3 Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations. Neh. 9:26 We should not Provoke or Tempt Christ Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. Exodus 23:20-21 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 1 Cor. 10:9 Do not Vex the Holy Spirit by Rebelling But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. Isa. 63:10 When we do not believe we are rebelling Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice. Deut. 9:23 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. Psa. 106:24-25 Those who Rejected the Lord are interfering with God's will And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 1 Sam. 8:7 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king. I Sam 15:23 We should not revolt (rebel) against the Lord like the children of Israel did Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. Isa. 1:5 Turn ye unto him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted. Isa. 31:6 Never despise the law of the Lord-the Word of God Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations. Neh 9:26 His Words are Despised when people Rebel Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: Psa. 107:11 Rebellion is sin For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God. Job 34:37 Rebellious people are delivered to their enemies But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered? Ezek. 17:15 Moses and Aaron were angered by Rebellion And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? Num. 20:10 Rebellious people do not believe or listen to the Lord's voice Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice. Deut. 9:23 The Lord wants to be first in our lives and He gets very angry if He is not But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. Ezek. 20:8 Many people ignore the Lord But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. Zech. 7:11 People were put to death for not obeying God's commanments Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage. Josh. 1:18 Rebelliousness is a sin We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: Dan. 9:5 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: Exod. 32:8-9 How to Stop Rebelling Against God Only the Lord can forgive us for Rebellion To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; Dan. 9:9 God is always ready to forgive, slow to anger and very kind And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not. Neh 9:17 In order to stop rebelling against God we must ask for His forgiveness, learn His ways, His laws, His commandments, and do them. Worship Him and only Him, do not deny Him or turn your back on Him. When you rebel against God you are showing contempt for His word, His will, His laws. Contempt for God grieves the Holy Spirit and borders on committing the unpardonable sin. Study, pray, every day. Do not be deceived. God made laws and commandments for valid reasons. Without God's laws the world is in chaos, just as it is today. Let us not rebel against His word, Amen.
